Friendship is like sex I think. Everybody seems to want it, so why is it so fraught with difficulty?
It is of course a dilemma of our generation here in the
UK . Our parents for the most part stayed put in the same town, or were transported away by the Army or whatever into a cocooned social system of support. Their social structure was created over long periods of time around local environments. It was nicely fixed and peaceful. |

Social Networking websites. Here is a quick whizz through around this new world. They started in the USA and the main model is open-to-all sites which need millions of members to survive and are funded by paid advertising.
Any shared values or common experience amongst the registrants must be sought out with great care and time.
Because all these sites are not vetted the membership is everyone: you should imagine yourself standing on Oxford Street and trying to make friends. Not easy. There are now concerns about identity theft on the open networking sites and this concern will favour our business model.

Why should I join mychumsclub.com?
Each section of life has special challenges and opportunities; the transition to a third age is no different.
Our club says that you can and should make this journey with new friends
We organise events where you can meet and exchange ideas to truly make your third age “a new dawn”. Our event guides are experts in their field.
We have commissioned professionals to write stimulating articles about making the most of this new adventure into the unknown territory away from formal work. You will read about inspiring baby boomers from the pens of Jane Wheatley who writes for national broadsheets, from Faith Glasgow about personal finance, from Theo Pike about river sports, Rowena Loverance on art and architecture and others who make their living from writing. |

MyChumsClub.com has pioneered the idea of self-booked events for the newly-retired, with trips already successfully completed to
Istanbul , Russia,
France ,
Poland ,
Austria and
Italy .
Online social networking was the flavour of last year but the social sites that opened in that whirl of media hype have had to learn to adapt: sites today need to offer more to their members than a blog forum in order to survive. |

Here are some screen shots of Andrew being interviewed on BBC2- the business programme at midday. Date Friday 21st December.
The subject was the evening film about the progress of Facebook being dogged by issues about theft of personal identity- that's why there is a big Facebook logo at the back of the studio.
It was pretty scary being on live TV and I wasn't expecting the second question to be about our privacy advice. It was more frenetic than I had imagined as they were adding pieces as the programme was on air.
Rory said off camera that he thought Facebook had had its day and was destined to be just a student site in the future. Good news for MyChums as we will have the over fifties field for ourselves.
